Job Description

The Project Financial Management Specialist will support the company’s accurate and timely analysis and reporting of financial data to a wide range of clients. They will also support the integrity of the company’s operations through contributing to the development and refinement of project financial management policies, guidelines, procedures, and tools. The Project Financial Management Specialist will also oversee project-based financial management where the company has registered entities outside of the US or in partnership with other US entities. Success in this role requires excellent financial management skills, a keen eye for detail, an orientation toward systems improvement, and the ability to explain financial data to non-financial audiences.

Your Principal Duties will include:

  • Recommend and implement financial management systems for the accurate, timely, and compliant reporting of project financial data, including level-of-effort tracking and reporting
  • Provide guidance on appropriate invoice templates based on contract mechanism type and review monthly project invoices
  • Routinely analyze projects’ progress in achieving financial targets, and make recommendations to project managers for adjustments or realignments of resources
  • Oversee the monthly invoice process for project consultants and subcontractors
  • Recommend project financial management tools to project staff based on contract mechanism type and client reporting requirements
  • Further refine project-based procurement policies, systems, guidelines, and tools
  • Contribute to the review of company-wide procurement processes, especially those related to auditing, financial management, and other core company functions
  • In collaboration with Business Development and Project Delivery, develop and review proposal and modification budgets for new and existing activities
  • Provide coaching and guidance to non-financial project staff and project participants (e.g., grantees) on developing and maintaining sound project financial management systems
  • In collaboration with the company’s internal learning champions, contribute to the development and dissemination of the knowledge base of financial management best practices and lessons learned
  • Oversee full cycle project- or location-specific audits; contribute to annual company audits
  • Assist in developing the necessary controls for project- and location-specific activities
  • Identify and recommend updates to accounting systems and procedures, as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or any other related field
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant experience in project finance, management, or accounting
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, particularly MS Excel
  • Demonstrated familiarity with one or more accounting systems
  • Ability to work in the US without sponsorship

Working Conditions

Full-time telework until the company’s Washington, DC office reopens for regular business; thereafter regular office environment with the opportunity for regular telework.
