Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Office of the Director (OD), United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) in Vienna, Austria. The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer, Partnerships, Office of Director UNOOSA.
The Office of the Director (OD) is responsible for supporting the Office’s overall direction, administration and management, leading external relations and public information activities, overseeing coordination and cooperation with entities involved in space-related activities, the maintenance of the United Nations Register of Objects Launched into Outer Space and the implementation of assigned partnerships, initiatives and activities, among which:
- World Space Forum
- Space for Women
- Space Economy
- Space for Youth
- Space for Climate Action
- Promoting Space Sustainability
- Enhancing International Expertise in Registration of Space Objects
The internship is UNPAID and interns work five days per week (full time - 40 hours).

The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Associate Public Information Officer, Office of the Director, UNOOSA.
Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Supporting the design and production of multimedia content for UNOOSA’s strategic communications, including graphics and layouts for social media, PowerPoint presentations, flyers, posters, fact sheets, brochures, web graphics, publications and other outreach materials, using tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, and related applications.
- Editing video content such as longer explainers, feature stories and Q&A videos, as well as short-form vertical video content (e.g. Reels, Shorts) for Instagram and other social media platforms, using software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, or others.
- Contributing to the full multimedia production workflow, including developing visual concepts and storyboards; producing design drafts and video scripts; incorporating feedback from team leads and senior stakeholders; updating and adapting content for different platforms and audiences; and preparing final assets for publication across digital, print and social media channels.
- Assisting with filming, photography and on-site content capture during conferences, meetings and in-person events, where applicable (for interns based in Vienna or working in person), including setup or shooting support and post-production assistance.
- Ensuring all multimedia outputs adhere to UNOOSA and UN branding, style and accessibility guidelines, including visual identity standards and inclusive design practices.
- Participating in team briefings and project meetings, providing updates on assigned tasks, timelines and deliverables, and contributing to discussions on creative approaches and storytelling.
- Staying informed on trends and best practices in multimedia production, digital storytelling and social media communications, and sharing ideas to enhance the impact and reach of UNOOSA’s content.
Qualifications/Special Skills
The basic education required is HS Diploma. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- (b) be enrolled in, or have completed recently, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.

Additional skills and attributes:
- Be computer literate in standard software applications; proficiency in preparing spreadsheets.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
- Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
