  • 6 months (minimum 2 months, maximum 6 months depending on office needs)

Duties and Responsibilities
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) is one of five UN regional commissions, established in 1948 to promote economic and social development in the region. ECLAC provides support to governments through policy design, monitoring and evaluation, advisory services, training, and regional/international coordination. Learn more at www.eclac.org.

Under the supervision of Maria Elena Rivera (Economist, RCO El Salvador), the intern will support:

  • Country Analysis
    • Conduct desk reviews and data collection
    • Update existing information
    • Draft relevant sections of the Country Analysis Report
  • Strategic Prioritization for the Cooperation Framework
    • Prepare inputs and background materials for meetings
    • Perform online coordination tasks related to the prioritization process
    • Document and follow up on discussions and agreements

Qualifications / Special Skills

  • High school diploma is required
  • Must meet one of the following:
    • Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (Master’s or equivalent)
    • Be enrolled in or have completed the final year of a first university degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent)
  • No professional experience required, but studies must relate to the internship field
  • Proficiency in MS Excel and PowerPoint is required
  • Ability to draft basic policy briefs is an asset
  • Applicants must indicate which academic requirement they meet and attach proof (official certificate will be required later)

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish is required
  • Knowledge of English is an advantage

Intern-Specific Information

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations
  • Interns are responsible for all travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship country may need to obtain a visa and appropriate authorization
  • Selected candidates should discuss visa requirements before accepting the offer
