Duties and Responsibilities

  • ESCAP (United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific) promotes sustainable, inclusive development and regional connectivity in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • As a regional development arm of the UN Secretariat, ESCAP supports its members through:
    • Policy-oriented research and analysis
    • Normative support
    • Technical assistance and capacity-building
  • The Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanization (CSAM), based in Beijing, is a regional ESCAP institute with the mandate to:
    • Promote technical cooperation among ESCAP members and other interested UN member States
    • Facilitate information exchange, knowledge sharing, and R&D in sustainable agricultural mechanization
    • Support achievement of internationally agreed development goals, including the SDGs
  • The internship is:
    • UNPAID and full-time
    • Minimum duration: 2 months, extendable up to 6 months
    • Work schedule: 5 days/week (37.5 hours)
    • Supervised by a staff member in the assigned division or office
  • Responsibilities may include:
    • Supporting ongoing projects
    • Assisting in social media outreach
    • Providing administrative support
    • Preparing presentations
    • Consolidating and sorting data

Qualifications/Special Skills

  • Applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate programme (second university degree or higher)
    • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level)

Languages

  • Working languages of the UN Secretariat: English and French
  • Fluency in English is required for this internship

  • Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
  • Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
  • Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the internship location may need to obtain appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
  • Successful candidates should confirm visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
