Job Description

Pact Overview:

At the heart of Pact is the promise of a better tomorrow. A nonprofit international development organization founded in 1971, Pact works on the ground in 40 countries to improve the lives of those who are challenged by poverty and marginalization. We serve these communities because we envision a world where everyone owns their future. To do this, we build systemic solutions in partnership with local organizations, businesses, and governments that create sustainable and resilient communities where those we serve are heard, capable, and vibrant.
Pact is a recognized global leader in international development. Our staff have a range of expertise in areas including public health, capacity development, governance and civil society, natural resource management, poverty, fragile states, monitoring and evaluation, small-scale and artisanal mining, microfinance and more. This expertise is combined in Pact’s unique integrated approach, which focuses on systemic changes needed to improve people’s lives.

Position Purpose:

Pact engages with public, private and other civil society stakeholders to advance learning, dialogue and action around improving people’s lives. One way we do this is through participation in the World Economic Forum.

Civil society is undergoing a fundamental transition in its traditional role in promoting accountability, fairness, trust and transparency, as digital and emerging technologies impact the sector and society. New technologies provide significant opportunities and risks for individual organizations as well as society, and civil society leaders must meaningfully participate with other stakeholders in the governance of these technologies.

The Research and Communications Coordinator will support WEF’s Civil Society team in their effort to prepare civil society for the Fourth Industrial Revolution, which provides a platform to accelerate impact, practice and responsibility among civil society and social good organizations responding to digital and emerging technologies.

This position is a temporary assignment from September 2018 – May 2019.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research and knowledge support across working groups, including supporting meeting inputs and database of relevant program examples, among others.
  • Support for whitepaper development, including desk research, interview assistance, analysis, and database maintenance.
  • Communications support, including, but not limited to, email and event coordination and online platform inputs.
  • Event rapporteur support to help capture working group insights and provide a summary to participants.

Basic Requirements:

  • 2-5 years of experience in research, knowledge management, communications or event planning.
  • Knowledge of international development, digital and emerging technologies, and/or technology for development.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting and/or supporting original research, desk research, and/or synthesis reviews.
  • Prior work experience in international development.
