Research/Data Analyst

The Research/Data Analyst in PRB’s International Programs will be based in Washington, DC with opportunities for international travel as needed to support research and training activities. Research conducted in International Programs range from descriptive analyses of contraceptive prevalence or policy implementation to forecasting effects of population change on demand for faculty in tertiary education. Our research is designed to inform policy debates and programming at the national and subnational level and to support development of evidence-based advocacy initiatives. We are looking for a detailed-oriented analyst with experience analyzing large survey and other datasets and an interest in policy-facing research to contribute to initiatives in education, demography as well as gender and women’s work, participating in all stages of quantitative and qualitative research projects.

Responsibilities

    • Manage and clean multiple datasets; create variables and scales and perform descriptive and
    • inferential statistical analysis
    • Assist program and research staff in carrying out technical assistance to partners related to quantitative and qualitative research
    • Conduct literature reviews and other desk research
    • Contribute to questionnaire or interview guide development
    • Contribute to/draft reports, briefs, and journal articles based on quantitative and qualitative dat
    • Conduct research trainings for International Programs staff and partners, developing tools and materials for internal and external learnin
    • Develop and manage activity budgets and timelines, managing daily project activities ensuring high quality, timely deliverable
    • Contribute to grant proposals and project reports
    • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s with 2 to 3 years relevant work experience or undergraduate degree with 5+ years relevant work experience; degrees focused on application of social science quantitative research methods (e.g., statistics, economics) preferred.
  • Experience managing and analyzing quantitative datasets, including data cleaning and merging, creation of variables, descriptive analysis, and multivariate regression and other analysis models
  • Experience producing descriptive and analytical statistical tables and graphs
  • Experience interpreting and writing reports based on quantitative data
  • Excellent English writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Experience and familiarity with Stata or SAS (familiarity with R or Python is a plus)
  • Proficiency in handling spreadsheets prepared for data analysis
  • Math proficiency required to interpret and document relationships in (forecasting and simulation) models
  • Consistent attention to detail
  • Willingness to travel, as necessary, to and within countries experiencing political instability and/or presenting certain health risks, not to exceed 25%

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with research design, including questionnaire development
  • Experience and interest in qualitative research methods
  • Knowledge of demography, gender, work, and education issues
  • Second language skills, French preferred
  • Interest in and ability to communicate complex research findings to non-expert audiences
