Services for the Kokoda Highway Scoping Study
The Australian Government,
through the PNG-Australia Transport Sector Support Program, Phase 3 (TSSP3)
implemented by DT Global, is supporting
Papua New Guinea to achieve a
more effective, efficient, and inclusive transport system, enabling the
economic and social development of PNG.
The Kokoda Highway is a
critical national road in Oro Province of Papua New Guinea, connecting the
provincial capital of Popondetta to the historic town of Kokoda. The highway
serves as a vital economic link for agricultural communities, provides access
to essential services, and is crucial for the tourism industry, particularly
for trekkers on the Kokoda Track.
While sections of the highway
are sealed, a significant portion remains unsealed, leading to poor road
conditions, especially during the wet season. This impedes travel, increases
vehicle operating costs, and limits economic development in the region. The
objective of the scoping study is to gain a detailed understanding of the
project’s scope and cost to facilitate an understanding of the requirements for
future sealing of the unsealed sections of the Kokoda Highway.
TSSP3 intends to engage a
consultant to understand the extent of work required to upgrade the road to a
sealed road. TSSP3 is now calling for tenders from suitably qualified and
experienced consultants to conduct a comprehensive scoping study.
This tender is open to
organisations that meet the criteria detailed in the tender documentation.
The deadline for tender
submission is 2:00pm (Port Moresby time) on 5 March 2026. TSSP3 will not
accept submissions received after the deadline.
