Job Description
For our Skills Development and Education Team in Switzerland (Zurich), which is part of the Advisory Services Department, we are currently looking upon agreement for a SENIOR ADVISOR IN VOCATIONAL EDUCATION TRAINING (VET), F/M 70-100%
The Skills Development and Education Team is responsible for the development of the sector of vocational education and training and basic education of the organization. It supports the implementation of practice- and demand-oriented education programs in Asia, Africa, Central America and Eastern Europe. The aim is to increase accessibility and quality of vocational training offers in order to enhance skills and knowledge for the wellbeing and employment of disadvantaged people.
MAIN TASKS
- You advice and support vocational education and training projects abroad with strategic guidance, portfolio development, institution building, capacity development and knowledge sharing at relevant interfaces within the organisation
- You provide thematic advice to project teams, partners and clients and you contribute to professional Swiss and global network discussions by representing Helvetas
- You lead advisory mandates for external clients (development agencies, foundations, NGOs, etc.) and prepare acquisition proposals
- You develop education tools and guidelines, contribute to the development of advocacy positions and of the education sector of Helvetas overall
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- An academic degree (MSc level) in education, pedagogy or in another field related to the working area (e.g. economics, international relations)
- At least six years of experience in development cooperation, including several years of continuous long-term assignments abroad, especially in Africa or Asia, as well as short-term consultancies are expected
- Profound experience in VET, specifically dual VET and the involvement of private sector in VET, and in monitoring and evaluation
- Experience with the linkage of basic education and VET is a crucial additional assets
- Practical knowledge in acquisition
- Very good analytical and conceptual competences and profound working experience in project cycle management
- Intercultural and gender sensitivity, good listening and advising skills and ability to establish and maintain a good advisor-client relationship
- Excellent knowledge of English and good skills in French or Spanish, any other relevant language is an asset
- Good oral and written communication and facilitation skills
- Interest in travelling to other countries several times per year (including fragile contexts)
