LOOKING FOR A SENIOR DIRECTOR OF BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT TO JOIN OUR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND HUMANITARIAN ASSISTANCE TEAM

With an expanding portfolio of humanitarian assistance and disaster preparedness, risk mitigation and recovery programs, we are currently seeking a Director of Business Development to become a critical member of our dynamic International Development and Humanitarian Assistance team.

In this role, the Director is responsible for leading business development strategies with multiple key stakeholders. This includes developing, updating, and managing business development approaches; working with Miyamoto International technical and finance teams as well as Regional Offices and other partners to prospect, network, and identify new opportunities for US Government and non-US Government funding; managing the business development team; and coordinating the development of winning proposals. The Director and her/his team will ensure the quality of all aspects of the proposal process and will be responsible for management of selected proposal opportunities from inception through proposal submission. The Business Development Unit will also participate in negotiations with donors and primes, and in project hand-over and start-up processes.

Reporting to the Principal of the International Development and Humanitarian Assistance practice area, the Director, a member of the practice areas leadership team, will be expected to collaborate with the team on the development and implementation of MI’s fundraising and revenue-building strategy. This includes maintaining, updating, and presenting the USG/non-USG pipeline; contributing to the annual budget forecast cycle; representing at selected external events and with diverse internal stakeholders; coordinating external networks; and engaging with peer organizations, donors, and potential donors. The Director will also advise the on relevant trends and be expected to co-create new and innovative funding and implementation models.

Some of the central responsibilities of this position are:

Develop and implement proactice area’s business development strategy:

  • Develop a comprehensive USG-focused and non-USG business development strategy including approaches, tools, and metrics.
  • Lead the implementation of the business evelopment stategy including coordinating actions of relevant stakeholders.
  • Propose, cost out, and oversee strategic investments in the new business development and the budget planning cycle.
  • Contribute to identifying emerging areas for MI to shape opportunitis with donors.

Coordination of business development-focused networking and representation:

  • Lead the Business Development Unit, technical teams, and other internal stakeholders to identify, track, and position for relevant upcoming funding opportunities.
  • Identify and present together with others MI’s capabilities to USG, and to other donors such as multilateral banks, bilateral funding institutions, foundations, corporations.
  • Represnet MI Business development interests at relevant meetings, events, and among formal and informal networks of peer organizations.
  • As possible, conduct or coordinate prospecting visits to countries of interest to identify and prepare for upcoming funding or coordinate prospecting visits to conuntries of interest to identify and prepare for upcoming funding opportunties by gathering and analyzing intelligence to inform collaborative proposal development strategies including partnering.
  • Manage pre-solicitation proposal preparations and bid planning including intelligence gathering, partnership building, bid strategy development including identifying win-themes and gaps, and intelligence gathering and sharing.
  • Maintain an up-to-date detialed proposal tracker including opportunities in different stages of development.

Oversee the development of proposals:

  • Ensure that all aspects of the proposal process create high-quality, resoinsive, winning bids.
  • Specific review and writing of specific sections including overall proposal structure, context and bacground sections, technical design, and drafting and review of management and/or other propsal sections.
  • Ensure completeness and timeliness of proposal submssions.
  • Lead or contribute to the identification and creation of innovative funding or project implmentation.

Leand amanages the Business Development Unit:

  • Support the recruitment and retention of qualified business development professionals.
  • Manage the BD Unit including maintaining team spirit and performance, setting annual goals, encouraging career development, addressing issues within the team, and ensuring equitable distribution of work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum eight years of business development experience in positions of increasing responsibilities.
  • Fours years of management experience.
  • Five years of budget development experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, international development, or related field. Master’s degree desirable. Demonstrated experience with USG and especially USAID capture and proposal processes and procedures. Multilateral banks, UN, Foundations, and corporation experience desirable.
  • A track record of winning bids across different procurement mechanisms with a varieity of donors.
  • Creative, resourceful self-starter and multi-tasker, as well as the ability to beflexible, problem solve independently and work well across time zomes with remote, global teams.
