Job Description

Chemonics International is seeking a New Business Senior Associate for the West and Central Africa and Haiti (WCAFH) Business Unit. The new business senior associate will provide support to the new business strategy and development efforts and will contribute to the success of a dynamic business unit, with active projects in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Nigeria, Senegal, Southern Africa Region, as well as a DC-based global program. The WCAFH division also houses the Agriculture and Food Security Practice. With a robust forward market spanning a wide range of technical sectors, including education, rule of law, agriculture and food security, WASH, and governance programming in Haiti, Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, DRC, Mali, and Senegal, we are seeking candidates with strong new business experience and a passion for working in the WCAFH region and beyond. This role requires on-site work in our Washington, DC office location as part of our hybrid, flexible work structure.

Position Overview:

The new business senior associate participates in entry-level proposal team roles and shares internal and external knowledge with other proposal teams. They will also support proposal preparation, pre-proposal data collection, proposal development, and submission for government business development proposals; review proposal documents to ensure adherence to company policy, government specifications and requirements, and conformance to master agreements; and respond to inquiries regarding proposal obligations and revisions.

Responsibilities:

Market Strategy Development and Portfolio Management

  • Regularly checks relevant external information sources, such as SAM.gov and Grants.gov, for updates, maintains internal trackers, updates corporate record-keeping systems, and ensures files are up to date; shares timely information with the new business team and BU leadership
  • Serves as new business liaison to proposal efforts, including scheduling meetings, ensuring the team has necessary resources, performing proposal quality assurance, and facilitating debriefs
  • Attends internal and external events and conferences to collect information and network
  • Coordinates, schedules, and facilitates new business orientation for new employees, including demonstrating comprehensive knowledge of the new business team’s functions
  • May dedicate time to other workstreams and functions to achieve BU goals, including operations, project management, and technical practice contributions

New Business Development

  • Participates on capture and live proposal teams in specific roles of increasing complexity, including past performance writer, corporate capabilities writer, expatriate and local recruiter, coordinator, cost preparer, and subcontractor liaison
  • Assists new business recruitment efforts for expatriate and local staff, including sourcing candidates, conducting interviews, checking references, collecting employment verification documentation, and determining finalists
  • Recruits and provides logistical support to new business consultants, including collecting biodata verification information, drafting agreements, coordinating travel logistics, tracking timesheets and level of effort, and submitting and tracking payment requests
  • Provides mentorship as appropriate to BU staff in new business roles and best practices
  • Serves as acting new business manager and performs other duties as required

Technical

  • Attends technical practice meetings to share knowledge regarding the status of solicitations and capture relevant technical information to relay back to the new business team
  • Engages in technical practice of relevance to areas of interest or focus

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant administrative or professional work experience, including 1 year of business development, contractual, procurement, project management, or related experience
  • Communicates clearly and concisely in both verbal and written communications; strong cross-culture communication and sensitivity skills
  • Demonstrated experience multitasking with attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
  • Demonstrated experience following standard practices and procedures, receiving general instruction and supervision, and contributing to projects and initiatives
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Works independently and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and initiative to learn new skills
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility and integrity
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficiency in French is required
  • Previous experience working in international development and/or living or conducting volunteer work in developing countries a plus
  • Willingness to travel for up to 8 weeks per year

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $55,760 - $69,700.

An employee’s pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
