Function of the position:

DAI’s ICT/Geospatial Services Team is looking for a Spatial Planning/Development Consultant to support DAI’s Environment, Energy, and Health (E2H) Sector as well as to support broader corporate initiatives. The Spatial Planning Consultant will work as a core member of the E2H Sector home office team and also work with DAI’s Core ICT/Geospatial Services Unit. Qualified candidates will have practical technical expertise applying spatial analysis in one or more of the following areas: biodiversity conservation, community-based natural resource management, or watershed management.

DAI is looking to fill an initial 3 month full time, temporary position.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  1. Technical Assistance

Advise the E2H sector on incorporating spatial planning and analysis into program delivery and into new business development and contribute vision and activity design for E2H proposal efforts.

Write terms of reference for E2H activities supported through spatial planning

Provide short-term technical assistance for E2H Sector programs.

Design and deliver training for in-country staff.

Deliver spatial analytical data products; develop training materials and reports that support E2H program planning, studies, monitoring and evaluation.

Weekly activity reports including projects and proposals supported, internal and external meeting notes and summaries and issues and challenges.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Geography, GIS or related field and 5 years experience, or Masters degree in Natural Resources Management, Geography, GIS or related field and minimum 3 years experience. Masters degree and minimum of 5 years experience is preferred. Minimum of 3 years experience applying GIS and spatial planning to environmental management situations and/or international development is preferred. Knowledge of community mapping, climate change tools, crowdmapping and/or other practical uses of geospatial applications. Experience working with international geospatial datasets, international remote sensing /geospatial associations, or geospatial humanitarian missions is highly desired. Proficiency in the development and management of spatial data, relational databases and developing spatial models is preferred. Experience applying and providing training in the use of spatial planning tools in natural resources management applications in the international context, and especially in developing countries is highly desired. Experience with ArcGIS and webmapping platforms preferred. Proven experience writing proposals, reports, and client centered documents preferred. Ability to communicate effectively in at least one major foreign language (Spanish, French, Portuguese and/or Arabic) is preferred. Additional language skills highly desirable.
