Job Description
Position objective:
We are looking for a Strategic HR manager to develop and implement an HR Strategy to promote an organizational culture of teamwork, service, high quality, transparency, accountability, innovation and inclusiveness. The HR Manager will be responsible for all aspects of the HR function, playing a key role in building the function for AKF (US) through the development and implementation of sound HR policy, setting up of user friendly HR systems and processes, and provision of employee and volunteer life cycle support to the small but busy AKF (US) team, within the context of the wider international AKF HR. They will also be responsible for Bi-weekly payroll for close to 20 staff.
Core duties and responsibilities:
- HR Strategy and organizational culture: Work with the CEO to develop an HR Strategy and to ensure that AKF (US) is resourced to deliver on its strategic objectives; ensure that all aspects of the HR function promote an organizational culture of teamwork and service, high quality, transparency and accountability, innovation and inclusiveness
- HR policies and procedures: Ensure continuous improvement of HR systems and policies in line with current best practice and changing US legislation and regulations
- Staffing and recruitment: Lead and facilitate the recruitment process and ensure that all hiring is in accordance with best practices, compliance, organizational budgetary guidelines and ensuring people with the right skills, experiences and attitudes are appointed in all positions
- On-boarding Develop and implement a comprehensive on-boarding process for employees during their first month of employment, and for the management and support of employees during their probation period; and throughout the entire employee life cycle
- Compensation and reward: Work with the Head of Finance to ensure that AKF (US)’s compensation framework is reviewed and benchmarked to ensure attraction, motivation and retention of employees
- Duty of Care: Ensure that AKF (US) meets its Duty of Care towards all employees including building awareness and implementation of safeguarding measures amongst AKF (US) staff and volunteers.
- Staff development, engagement and career progression: Focus on talent development including the regular processes of staff appraisal and feedback, goal setting, professional development and career development to ensure that all employees have the opportunity to fulfil their career potential
- Improving performance: Ensure the effective and timely implementation of the appraisal process, including mid and end of year reviews and support of the ongoing monthly meetings
- Supporting HR implementation: Guide and coach managers on employee relationship and HR issues in line with company policies and best practice, including disciplinary, grievance, performance and absence management
- Outplacement: Provide outplacement resources for terminated staff as needed
- Administration: Prepare contracts for review by the Head of Finance and Operations ensuring AKF (US) are up-to-date with employment law; provide payroll processing backup support; partners with accounting and payroll to maintain the payroll database.
- Bi-weekly payroll for 20 staff
Daily Job Duties
- Facilitating human resources processes
- Ensuring the effective utilization of plans related to HR programs and services
- Answering employees and managers requests and questions
- Reconciling payroll and benefits statements
- Conducting audits of payroll, benefits, and other HR programs, and recommending corrective actions
- Leading the performance review and termination processes
- Leading the recruitment and interview processes
- Ensure basic safety, security and safeguarding awareness trainings are conducted for all staff annually underscoring the idea that all staff have a role to play in safety and security
- Work with CEO and leadership to discuss additional specialized training needs for staff
Requriements:
- BS in Human Resources or related field
- PHR, SPHR or SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP certification preferred
- At least five years of substantial experience in a generalist human resource management role and/or as an HR business partner role, including experience in the development of HR strategy, HR policy development, recruitment, performance management and appraisals, learning and development, compensation and benefits, recruitment, payroll, staff engagement and exit processes
- General knowledge of HR compliance employment legislation and regulations on the federal and DC level
- Experience in the administration of benefits, payroll and compensation programs
- Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Must include Excel and demonstrated skills in database management and record keeping
- Experienced at multitasking under pressure against demands and deadlines, whilst always maintaining a positive and constructive attitude and demeanor
- Agility and innovation
- Proven ability to deliver a consistently high level of accuracy in preparing and entering information
- Flexible approach to working, able to pick up a variety of tasks/projects with minimal supervision
- Excellent oral and written communication
- Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills
- Evidence of the practice of a high level of confidentiality and maturity
- Excellent organizational skills.
This is part-time salaried (3 days a week) 24 hours per week with no benefits.
