Structural/Bridge Engineer

Job Description

Sheladia is currently looking for a Structura/Bridge Engineer to work in Ethiopia. The objective of the consulting service is to conscientiously fulfill to the highest professional standards the role of the Project Manager, as defined under the Civil Works Contract and to monitor and supervise the Modjo - Hawassa Highway Project; Lot 3: Batu (Zeway) - Arsi Negele Section (~57.10 km) which is being implemented under the Design and Build form of contract delivery system, throughout the entire design and construction period, including the defects liability (maintenance) period. The consultant is required to undertake such engineering and management supervision activities that will:

1. Ensure completeness and adequacy of all survey and engineering design work performed by the Contractor and give approval and/or suggestions for improvement as per the terms of the contract between the Contractor and Employer
2. Ensure that the road is constructed in full compliance with the engineering design carried out by the contractor, the Employer’s Requirements, and other contract documents or any amendments thereto and to meet the standard of quality required of the end product, and for the design and construction to be executed within the contractual time for completion, or any agreed amendments thereto
3. Ensure the optimized use of natural resources, and other available material resources to maximize the quality of the works, to expedite construction and to ensure environmentally as well as socially sustainable construction

The ideal candidate should have the following qualifcations:

• A minimum of M.Sc Degree in Civil Engineering specializing in relevant fields
• 18 years’ experience in road / bridge design and supervision of construction of road and bridge rehabilitation projects
• 6 yearss’ of experience in bridges design including foundation design of bridges out of which 4 years are in developed countries
• 3 years’ experience as a structural engineer on road construction/rehabilitation projects
• Membership in relevant professional institutions/associations
• 3 years experience in Sub Saharan African countries
• 2 years experience with the firm or its associate within the last 5 years
