Job Description

Position Overview:

Chemonics’ Gender Equality & Social Inclusion (GESI) Practice advances technical excellence and development impact by integrating gender equality and social inclusion considerations into proposals and projects. The practice works to ensure projects are designed and managed to promote 1) integration of gender equality activities, 2) women’s empowerment, 3) social inclusion, 4) positive youth development 5) LGBTQI+ inclusive development, 6) disability- inclusive development and 7) addressing gender-based violence and safeguarding. As a team, we provide our 70+ projects with support including conducting and reviewing contractual deliverables such as project gender assessments, gender action plans and gender equality and social inclusion strategies; supporting the integration of gender and social inclusion issues into proposal and technical approaches; mentoring and leading staff trainings on topics such as gender mainstreaming and inclusion activities; conducting GESI practice outreach and communication activities.

​​​​​​​​The GESI Data Management and Analysis Summer Intern will be an integral member of the PMT and support the PMT over a period of 10 weeks, 40 hours per week and conduct critical database management, overhaul, and integration activities of Chemonics’ project data on successes, achievements, and results. The internship will take a dual-pronged approach focused on both the intern supporting the GESI PMT to achieve key goals, as well as providing the intern with exciting professional development opportunities that strengthen capacity to understand and apply inclusive development approaches. Below, we describe an initial outline for the activities envisioned for the internship. The GESI Data Management and Analysis Intern will also gain an understanding of the international development field and Chemonics’ technical areas through professional development opportunities and attending corporate trainings as well as external events.

Responsibilities:

General Administration and Professional Development (Approximately 15%):

  • The GESI PMT Intern will attend:
    • Weekly GESI PMT Check-Ins (Mondays)
    • Bi-weekly GESI PMT and Senior Vice President Meetings
    • Semi-regular meetings: DEI, Technical Working Groups
    • Monthly USG Business Line Division meetings
    • Monthly All PMTs Meeting
    • Other corporate meetings ad hoc
  • The GESI PMT Intern will complete online learning courses including:
    • How Chemonics Makes Money
    • USAID 101
    • GESI 101
    • Disability Inclusive Development
    • Introduction to Chemonics’ Technical Practices
    • Chemonics Employee Resource Groups
    • Enterprise Resource Planning learning modules
  • Schedule and attend networking connects with Chemonics global staff to learn more about different professional experiences and development pathways at Chemonics, as well as different job functions

Data Management and Analysis (Approximately 70%):

  • Utilize advanced Airtable and PowerBI skills to update and maintain critical online databases and systems for Chemonics’ GESI PMT
  • Conduct thorough research and data/evidence synthesis to redesign program synopses, ensuring they accurately reflect the outcome and impact data of Chemonics’ global programs
  • Design and create new dashboards that effectively communicate project data for corporate use across various development sectors
  • Develop and implement automations between different online systems to streamline data management processes and enhance overall efficiency
  • Extract and manage data from various sources, ensuring accuracy and completeness, and update key databases accordingly
  • Provide support in automating reports and contribute to efforts aimed at improving overall business efficiency through data-driven insights
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand data requirements and ensure the accuracy of information before presenting it to relevant parties
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in data management and analysis to continuously enhance skills and contribute to the improvement of Chemonics’ data-related processes
  • Other data management and analysis duties as assigned

Additional Project Management Team Activities (Approximately 15%):

  • Support the GESI PMT Intern and GESI PMT to prep and facilitate a GESI Focal Point Summit 2024
  • Leverage data management and analysis findings on project successes to co-publish a blog:
    • Connect with USG Strategic Communications team to learn about the process of publishing a blog
    • Submit a blog pitch to USG Strategic Communications team
    • Conduct outreach to learn more about project successes to feature in the blog
    • Draft a blog and work with USG Strategic Communications team to edit and finalize the blog

Qualifications:

  • Enrolled student currently pursuing an undergraduate (rising junior or senior) degree or graduate degree (first year of program completed) or 2024 graduate from a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree program.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office applications, Airtable or similar database, data flow and automation, data visualization with Microsoft PowerBI or other similar platform, and qualitative analysis skills required.
  • Demonstrated interest in international development.
  • Excellent research, analytical and communication skills.
  • Ability to work on a team and independently on projects and tasks.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in problem solving and initiative to learn new skills.
  • Attention to detail and willingness to learn.
