Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Interior Designer (Space Planner), your duties will include the following:

  • Supervising a group of employees performing work at the GS-14 equivalent level and below.
  • Providing administrative and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of the unit. Performs the administrative and human resource management functions relative to the staff supervised.
  • Overseeing and manages all aspects of space planning, design layouts, contract monitoring, and project planning for the M/MS/HMD Space Planning Team at USAID’s Domestic Offices.
  • Functioning as a Project Manager (PM), responsible for coordinating, tracking, and monitoring specific customers’ program-wide needs and schedules. Functions as a Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) for high priority, large projects.
  • Serving as a subject matter expert in interior design and provides expert, authoritative advice to high-level management officials on a wide range of interior design and space planning matters, representing USAID during review processes of new construction and renovation projects.
  • Using AUTOCAD software and preparing space plans, design feature drawings or sketches, change drawings, and design specifications for proposed space which demonstrate state of the art solutions to space usage.
  • Attending and participating in professional seminars, state-of-the-art symposiums and other meetings, conferences and/or programs to ensure that the latest interior design principles and techniques are incorporated into project definition, documentation, and execution.

Qualifications

GS-14; You must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; we consider part-time work on a prorated basis. Examples of qualifying specialized experience at the next lower level for this position includes: (a) conducting space planning, design layout, monitor contracts and does project planning; (b) providing design services that strive to incorporate the principles of physical and technical security, functional simplicity, spatial flexibility, economic construction while minimizing operation/maintenance costs; (c) providing expert, authoritative advice to high-level management officials on a wide range of interior design and space planning matters

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, relevant to the duties of the position to be filled, including volunteer experience.
