Duties and Responsibilities
Background:
The Tech Sector Development team of the International Trade Centre (ITC) is part of the Sector and Enterprise Competitiveness Section (SEC) within the Division for Enterprise Competitiveness and Institutions (DECI). The team includes professionals based at headquarters in Geneva, as well as colleagues in Uganda and Benin. It implements projects supporting the growth of companies in the services and technology sectors across Africa, Asia, Latin America, and the Caribbean. These initiatives provide training, coaching, market linkages, and ecosystem support.
The intern will assist in managing the #FastTrackTech ‘digital entrepreneurship & IT outsourcing’ toolkit, supporting publications, research, and outreach to IT & ITES SMEs, tech start-ups, micro-workers, and freelancers.
Under the supervision of the Tech Sector Development Coordinator and the overall guidance of the Chief, DECI/SEC, the intern will focus on programme management and IT sector development projects.
Project Management Support:
- Support the organization of events and training programmes for the team and beneficiary companies.
- Assist in preparing project implementation field missions with officers and national partners.
- Help draft project-related documentation, especially for Monitoring & Evaluation purposes.
Research:
- Conduct desk research and sectoral surveys focused on ICT, tech start-ups, innovation, and investors.
- Contribute to the drafting of reports and other knowledge products.
- Prepare briefing materials and visual presentations (Word, PowerPoint, Canva).
Communications:
- Assist in distributing project communications, especially online via web pages, social media, and email marketing.
- Help produce flyers, company directories, and other outreach materials.

Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria at the time of application:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or higher);
- Be in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level);
- Have recently graduated (within one year) from a university programme as defined above.
Relevant Fields of Study:
- Business studies, international trade, development, or related fields.
Required Skills:
- Fluency in English; French and/or Spanish is an asset.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and social media tools.
- Strong communication and analytical skills, both oral and written.
- Experience in consulting or business analysis is an advantage.
Additional Information – Learning Elements
During the internship, the selected candidate will:
- Gain project management skills by assisting in event coordination, logistical planning, and project implementation alongside field partners.
- Deepen knowledge of the ICT and startup sectors through research and sectoral analysis, building expertise in digital innovation and investment trends.
- Improve digital communication proficiency by supporting digital strategies across web platforms, social media, and email campaigns.
- Adjust their work plan as needed to meet academic requirements or obligations.
Internship Conditions
- Interns are not financially compensated by the United Nations.
- All costs (travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses) are the intern’s or their sponsor’s responsibility.
- Interns not residing in the country of the internship must secure the necessary visa and work authorization before starting.
