Job Description

The Department for International Trade (DIT) Mexico team works for UK businesses and serves as a frontline response to connect companies with business leads in the country , with the core aim to help UK firms win and expand their business in the region .
The position will report directly to the Head of Head of Tech, Creative Industries & Retail at the Department for International Trade (DIT) for Latin America in Mexico, this role could be based in either Guadalajara or Mexico City. The position is full time starting in August 2022 subject to security clearance. There will also be a 3 month probationary period.

The position will mainly assist the Tech, Creative Industries and Retail and Luxury Goods sectors in Mexico. The main role is to contribute towards the Latin-American strategy and tech and support British companies in Mexico in the Creative Industries & Retail and Luxury goods sectors as we deliver value towards the negotiations of the UK-MX Free Trade Agreement.
Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve?:

  • Manage initial enquiries sent from the DIT Latin American and the Caribbean (LATAC) Enquiry Hub. Adopting an effective, standardised relationship management approach for UK businesses.
  • Working closely with the regional DIT colleagues in the Creative Industries Virtual Team and in-country Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) colleagues - you will be responsible for various defined tasks in support of UK companies currently in market or looking to enter the market; helping them spot the opportunities, and also helping them navigate the challenges.
  • Update regularly the Tech, Creative & Retail core scripts.
  • Be an advocate for the Retail and Luxury Goods sector, supporting the team in organising events, follow up with clients, helping secure sponsorship opportunities and be present at events.
  • Work and support companies with market research and develop tools for companies looking to enter the Mexican and LATAC Markets for the Tech sector.
  • Work as a flexible member of the Embassy to support wider Embassy work as needed, including but not limited to, Crisis Work and other One HMG (Her Majesty’s Government) work and activities.
  • Be an active member of the regional DIT LATAC team.
  • Assist the team on commercial missions, visits and events planned throughout the financial year.
  • Being able to travel both national or international.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on arrival:

  • Undergraduate degree International Business, International Relations, Marketing or Business Administration.
  • At least one years’ experience working in a sales or customer-facing role and/or in the trade and investment promotion environment or related fields.
  • Experience of customer relationship management and use of CRM systems.
  • Proven track record of cross-team collaboration and working with teams across geographies.
  • A positive, resilient, able to work under a fast changing environment, being able to solve problems with minimum supervision required.
  • Well organised, results driven person that is self-motivated to achieve individual and team progress.
  • Appropriate communication techniques in a timely and responsive manner.
  • Market research skills.

Language requirements:
Language: Spanish and English
Level of language required: Native or Advanced

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience
Desirable:

  • Being able to delivering multiple tasks and projects with little supervision. A knowledge of business practices in Mexico
  • Basic knowledge of exports/imports.
  • Experience of working in or with government departments, NGOs, and similar institutions.
  • Basic knowledge of the Tech, Creative Industries or Retail sectors.
