Job Description

UNDP HISTORY:


UNDP works in approximately 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty and reduce inequality and exclusion. It helps countries develop policies, leadership skills, partnership capacities, institutional capacities, and build resilience to sustain development results.

UNDP works to strengthen new frameworks for development, disaster risk reduction and climate change, peace and security. It supports countries’ efforts to achieve the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which will guide global development priorities through 2030. The 2030 Agenda’s key principle of leaving no one behind and eradicating inequality is at the heart of everything UNDP does.

In order to contribute to achieving the development priorities of the Government of Niger, UNDP has agreed with it on a cooperation framework covering the period from 2023 to 2024 (Country Programme Document – ​​CPD, 2023-2027) which will focus on two pillars of intervention; namely:

  • Pillar 1: Structural transformation of the rural environment in which UNDP will work to increase the resilience of people, ecosystems, households and communities;
  • Pillar 2: Governance, peace, security and stabilization through which priority will be given to participatory, inclusive, equitable, responsible and transparent governance.

CONTEXT OF THE INTERNSHIP REQUESTING OFFICE:


As part of its support to the government’s efforts to address development challenges, the UNDP Niger Office has developed a new Country Programme Document (CPD) covering the period 2023-2027 and based on two pillars, namely: (i) structural transformation of the rural world and climate change, and (ii) governance, stabilization, peace and security. These terms of reference (TOR) are developed with a view to recruiting interns to support the implementation of the said Programme.

Under the overall guidance of the Deputy Resident Representative, the intern will contribute to supporting the effective implementation of the Country Programme by providing appropriate support to his/her unit of assignment, in accordance with UNDP rules and regulations.

He/She will work under the supervision of the head of his/her assigned unit and in close collaboration with other units of the Office, as well as with United Nations agencies, in order to facilitate the exchange of information and help resolve complex problems.

HOMEWORK :


The intern will assume the following main responsibilities and tasks of the position:

1/ Support the administrative management of the assigned unit (20%):

  • Support in the implementation of the unit’s activities with the various teams at the UNDP country office level, partners and other stakeholders;
  • Provide administrative and logistical support in the preparation of missions, meetings and other consultations;
  • Contribute to the development or improvement of terms of reference and technical documents relating to the unit’s activities;
  • Support the preparation of various documents as needed (concept notes, project documents, technical briefs and talking points);
  • Contribute to a dynamic data collection system to regularly measure unit/project results;
  • Ensure the proper implementation of activities and projects.

2/ Ensure reporting, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of activities/projects (30%):

  • Collect, synthesize and monitor information on progress made in implementing the action plan;
  • Contribute to the establishment of mechanisms ensuring a good flow of information on activities;
  • Participate in meetings and provide reporting;
  • Analyze documents and reports.

3/ Support the coordination of stakeholders and the creation of partnerships (25%):

  • Facilitate regular exchanges between key partners and stakeholders at the national level;
  • Develop effective partnerships and working relationships with UNDP partners and United Nations agencies;
  • Contribute to the preparation of project documents or concept notes.

4/ Contribute to learning and knowledge sharing (15%):

  • Liaise with UNDP country office teams and other United Nations agencies;
  • Document good practices and lessons learned;
  • Develop knowledge products and tools;
  • Establish a knowledge management system, prepare and produce case studies;
  • Ensure the visibility of actions and achievements;
  • Contribute to knowledge networks.

5/ Others (10%):


Occasionally support other relevant tasks requested by the supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS


Education and eligibility criteria:

Interns are selected on a competitive basis.

Academic criteria:

  • Be in the final year of a Bachelor’s degree; or enrolled in a Master’s degree; or recent diploma (less than one year old); or postgraduate program.
  • Fields of study: Business Management, Public Administration, Finance & Accounting, Agroeconomics, Environment, Agropastoralism, Data Analysis and Processing, Architecture, Archivist, Communication, Digital Communication, Graphic Design, Decentralization and Local Governance, Law / Legal Sciences, Economics and Management, Renewable Energy, Teaching and Humanities, Medical Studies (at the end of training), Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, Project Management, General Computer Science, IT Infrastructure and Networks, General Engineering, Nursing, Biomedical Laboratory, Logistics and Transport, Digital Marketing, Psychology, International Relations, Social Sciences, Statistics, Monitoring and Evaluation, Videography / Audiovisual Production.
  • Computer skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, PowerBI.
  • Language skills: Fluency in French required, English and national languages ​​appreciated.

Other skills:

INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • Unpaid internship, with payment of a monthly allowance in accordance with UNDP policy;
  • Mandatory health insurance, payable by the intern;
  • All other costs (accommodation, transport, etc.) are the responsibility of the intern;
  • No recruitment commitment during or at the end of the internship;
  • Full-time internship, in person or according to the terms defined by the assignment office.
