Support UNEP FI’s climate and regional teams in scaling up and developing climate mitigation initiatives for commercial banks, insurers, and asset owners in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), Africa Middle East (AME), Asia Pacific (APAC), and Europe.
Support development and delivery of UNEP FI’s climate plans covering impact analysis, risk management, target setting, transition finance, and implementation.
Promote the integration of climate considerations into all aspects of the banking sector and foster private sector investment toward low-carbon, climate-resilient economies.
Tasks:
Support in the organization, planning, and delivery of bilateral and collective engagement with banks, insurers, and asset owners to raise awareness and build capacity.
Conduct regional or country analysis of existing climate transition capabilities to identify gaps and opportunities.
Support scoping and prioritization of climate transition capacity-building needs.
Support the delivery of regional climate plans, considering UNEP FI’s and strategic partners’ capabilities and resources.
Support the design and preparation of regional or country-specific training materials.
Support the design and delivery of capacity-building activities to help financial institutions advance their climate mitigation journey.
Organize and deliver events to accelerate financial sector decarbonization, leveraging UNEP FI and partner capabilities.
Conduct maturity analysis of emissions data capabilities and identify opportunities for improvement.
Identify potential partners for gathering country-specific data (e.g., GHG intensity factors, climate transition scenarios).
Prepare reporting materials and perform administrative tasks.
Support translation of global UNEP FI materials to local contexts.
Qualifications / Special Skills
Must meet at least one of the following at the time of application:
Be enrolled in a graduate program (second university degree or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level).
Have graduated with a university degree and must commence the internship within one year of graduation.
Academic background in finance, environmental science, business administration, international relations, financial services, or environmental affairs.
Industry certifications from accredited financial services and risk management institutes are highly valued.
Professional work experience is not required, but studies must be closely related to the internship.
Must provide official proof of enrollment or degree certificate as required.
Languages
Required: Full professional fluency in English (oral and written).
Desirable: Knowledge of other UN languages; Spanish and Arabic are also desirable for this internship.
