Women’s Mentoring Programme Coordinator - Muscat, Oman

  • From November 2022 – March 2025, Tetra Tech is implementing the UK-Oman Strategic Partnership Programme for the British Embassy Muscat (BEM) and the Government of Oman (GOO). The programme aims to provide technical assistance to the Government of Oman on economic reforms and provide expansion and management of the Women’s Mentoring Programme, ‘Tamkeen’.
  • Programme duration: 1 year
  • Starting date: 1st April 2024
  • Number of working days: This is a full-time role for a period of 12 months (April 2024-March 2025). Tetra Tech and partners are however willing to discuss an arrangement for part-time contracting (minimum of 70% time) for the selected candidate.
  • Location: Oman, based in Muscat with travel outside Muscat when necessary, up to 8 week per year

The Programme

Tamkeen, the Mentoring Programme for Women, is an initiative by the British Embassy in Muscat which aims to support the empowerment, agency, professional and personal aspirations of young Omani women, as well as accompanying them to develop their own initiatives across the Sultanate of Oman. Tamkeen brings together women across sectors and regions and provides a platform for those who have an interest in being a mentor or mentee in a friendly and supportive environment which fosters collaboration and growth. Four cohorts have participated so far; in 2024-25 Tamkeen will be delivered for two further cohorts at selected regional locations in Oman.

Tetra Tech and The Human Edge (lead technical partner for Tamkeen) are required to manage the expansion and delivery of the programme, including engaging with key partners and institutions at regional level to raise awareness, interest and uptake of mentors and mentees to the programme – ensuring quality delivery and programme evolution in a range of areas.

The Role

The Programme Coordinator focusses on coordination of Tamkeen outreach, regional awareness raising and collaborations, participant engagement, and delivery of a range of activities in Oman, with guidance from implementing partners and day to day accountability to The Human Edge and Tetra Tech. The Programme Coordinator will be joining a collegiate team who are committed to ensuring programme quality and results. Specific tasks include:

  • Lead as the focal point of contact for all programme participants and alumni
  • Deliver a range of ongoing support and monitoring activities to current and previous Tamkeen cohorts, fostering professional learning, development and growth
  • Initiate and develop engagement and collaboration with key actors and institutions at regional level for enabling 2024-25 Tamkeen cohorts
  • Contribute to a thorough, relevant and timely approach to planning and coordinating activities to enable regional uptake of Tamkeen in 2024-25
  • Coordinate day to day programme activities, including organising events, procuring external supplier services, establishing and nurturing external relationships
  • Work collaboratively with all relevant partners during the in-country delivery of training and other Tamkeen events
  • Lead on ongoing support and monitoring activities, data collection and reporting for current and upcoming participants
  • Prepare relevant and quality communications about the programme - for social media, outreach flyers, and other materials and channels as relevant
  • Organise events, from conception to delivery and follow-up – including preparing checklists, engaging suppliers, and ensuring the participant learning experience is underpinned by high-quality logistical arrangements
  • Handle all event logistics including venues and platforms – online and in person
  • Prepare programme materials, including presentations and handouts
  • Prepare programme syntheses, analysis and reports
  • Prepare and monitor activity budgets, including liaising with/ managing local suppliers
  • Translate documents, communications and/ or knowledge products into Arabic and provide interpretation if/ when needed during the delivery of events/ training
  • Any other reasonable task within the overall remit of Tamkeen and the Programme Coordinator’s role

The Person

Required:

  • University degree in social studies, economics, political science, education, psychology, or any relevant field.
  • Experience of project and/or programme management
  • Professional working knowledge of English & Arabic.
  • Excellent knowledge of Omani institutional context, including associations and universities, relevant networks and agencies/ actors in Muscat and at a regional level.
  • Demonstrable professional skills in communications, events organisation, teamwork, autonomy, and initiative.
  • Flexibility and adaptability.
  • Excellent reporting and writing skills.
  • Literate in IT packages and software such as Excel, Miro, Calendly etc.
  • Ability and willingness to travel outside Muscat for events/ training, over periods of a week or more.

Desirable:

  • Minimum 3 years’ professional experience
  • Background and experience in adult learning and development.
  • Background or experience with mentoring programmes/ women’s leadership initiatives.
  • Experience and skills in qualitative and quantitative data collection – design of tools, synthesis, analysis, and reporting.
