But first, countries are due to submit their updated Nationally Determined Contributions, or NDCs, by February. These plans, though not legally binding, set goals to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius in line with the Paris climate agreement. Given agriculture’s role as a major greenhouse gas emitter, countries face strong pressure from climate advocates to include explicit reduction targets for the sector.
