A World Bank jobs guide: Where it’s hiring, key sectors, and top roles

The World Bank is one of the world’s leading multilateral development institutions that helps countries reduce poverty, increase economic growth, and promote sustainable development by providing finance, policy advice, and technical assistance. Landing a job at the World Bank is a career aspiration for global development professionals worldwide, and its work has never been more critical than in recent years, especially as it navigates a complex and ever-changing funding landscape.

The reduction in bilateral aid and international funding by the U.S. government, imposed by the Trump administration, has also affected the work of the World Bank since the U.S. is its largest shareholder. While there is a lot of uncertainty and internal changes in the bank, its work and the need for new talent continue.

Data from the Devex job board shows that the World Bank has published 915 jobs from Jan. 1 to Oct. 1 of this year, a 31.2% decrease from the same period last year, when the World Bank published 1,329 jobs. Job openings from the World Bank span different sectors, and the highest number of opportunities can be found in finance, ICT, and environment sectors.
