The Asian Development Bank created a USD400 million facility to help finance Afghanistan’s plan to build and repair a total of 4,400 kilometers of roads. The project forms part of the Afghanistan National Development Strategy through 2020. Juan Miranda, director general of ADB’s Central and West Asia department, said that more than 40 percent of the bank’s portfolio in the country involves the transport sector. Afghanistan has seen improvement of nearly 1,100 kilometers of regional and national roads through ADB’s help.
