ADB OKs $800M loan to Pakistan

Pakistan will get $800 million in loans from the Asian Development Bank to upgrade its electricity transmission network. According to an ADB statement, the funds will “rehabilitate and expand parts of the country’s transmission system to meet present and anticipated future demand and ensure the system’s continued operation and maintenance.” The Pakistani government is allowed to make periodic requests to ADB for the partial funding of its power transmission system upgrading. Pakistan’s Transmission Sector Road Map program will last from 2007 to 2016 and will cost some $3.9 billion in all, the ADB added.
