ADB to Philippines: Make provisional rules for natural gas

A team of energy experts from the Asian Development Bank has urged the Philippine government to implement interim regulations to stimulate the development of the country’s natural gas industry. According to the specialists, such rules would be necessary, since progress on the Philippines’ Natural Gas bill was only intermittent. The team also asked non-government groups to draw up a database of fuel quantities and prices used for industrial and commercial purposes to approximate gas demand and identify key regions for the development of gas infrastructure. “Given that the government has identified the gas sector as a strategic industry and the environmental benefits of gas use, mechanisms to lower domestic gas prices and make it more competitive compared with other fuels need to be considered,” the team said.
