Ahead of Launch, Catherine Ashton Eyes Filling 6 Top EEAS Posts

European Union foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton is expected to finalize appointments for at least six more top positions at the European External Action Service by the end of November.

Appointments of the six managing directors of geographical and thematic departments at EEAS are expected to be announced in one package before Dec. 1, an EU diplomatic source told Euobserver.

Ashton is currently conducting final interviews for the six posts. Those tipped to secure the six managing director jobs include Slovak Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak, European Commission officials Hugues Mingarelli, Christian Leffler and Tomas Dupla del Moral, and Finnish secret service head Ilkka Salmi.
