The United Kingdom government needs “to do more” work on climate change adaptation, International Development Minister Andrew Mitchell has admitted, despite the U.K. previously playing a pivotal role in advocating for more resources.
His remarks reflect concerns about the global shortage of climate adaptation financing and come amid worries from a leading expert that the U.K. has “given up on tackling climate change” internationally.
Despite a rebranding of U.K. aid launched by Mitchell last week, the British government is still struggling with its credibility on climate and international development issues, as a result of aid budget cuts and the closure of the Department for International Development.
