Marat Aitmagambetov is the director of the Bulat Utemuratov Foundation, a multiproject philanthropic organization in Kazakhstan. Under his leadership, the foundation has overseen around $210 million donated to charitable causes, and 13 new Asyl Miras autism centers. He has a Ph.D. in medical biophysics and 29 years of experience with philanthropy.
Although NGOs and philanthropic initiatives are burgeoning in the region, Central Asian governments can do more to develop legal infrastructure needed to facilitate giving.
