Simon Bland is the CEO of the Global Institute for Disease Elimination, or GLIDE. Simon has over 40 years of international development experience. He joined GLIDE as CEO in 2019 after six years as the director of UNAIDS New York Office. Before that, he spent 30 years working with the British government at the now-defunct Department for International Development. He was chair of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria from 2011 to 2013, served on the boards of Gavi, UNITAID, UNAIDS, RBM Partnership to End Malaria, and Malaria No More UK. He was awarded a CBE — Commander of the Order of the British Empire — in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in 2013 for services to global health.
