U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has named Maj. Gen. Moses Bisong Obi of Nigeria as the new commander of the U.N. Mission in Sudan.
Obi has previously served in various senior positions in the U.N. peacekeeping missions in Lebanon and Sierra Leone. He was also a former commanding officer of the regional Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group.
Obi will replace Lieutenant General Paban Jung Thapa of Nepal.
