Beyond 2015: Acknowledge the progress, focus on the future

Every day in rural Africa, mostly women and children walk for hours to retrieve water for their families’ needs.

In fact, women around the world collectively spend 200 million hours collecting water. In many cases, this time-consuming activity makes children late for school and prohibits women from maintaining employment and other productive activities. What’s even worse is that the water collected is often dirty and exposes families to waterborne diseases.

My guess is your experience with water this morning was quite different — as was mine.
