Biggest-ever aid cut looms for EU

In a month’s time, EU leaders will decide the bloc’s 2014-2020 budget. There have been talks of major cuts, including for global development spending.

According to Eloise Todd, the EU aid budget could face reductions of as much as €10 billion ($13 billion) over the budget period. It’s not clear at this point, however, which funding mechanism may be affected by the proposed cuts, the ONE Brussels director told Devex Editor Rolf Rosenkranz on the sidelines of the 2012 European Development Days.

An official media partner of EDD12, Devex was in Brussels to talk with the movers and shakers in international development. We video-taped conversations with more than 50 decision makers and thought leaders from the private, nonprofit and public sectors on hot-button issues in humanitarian relief, global health, social responsibility and international development.
