Botswana Seeks World Bank Loan to Combat AIDS

Botswana plans to borrow USD48.7 million from the World Bank to fund a program that tackles HIV/AIDS. “The additional funding is important because the anticipated social mobilization at local community level, in civil society and the private sector is critical to significantly change the course of the epidemic,” Finance Minister Baledzi Gaolathe said. Botswana has the world’s second highest HIV incidence rate, with one in four people aged 15 to 49 having the virus.
