The U.S. Senate confirmed Lael Brainard as head of the international affairs division of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network said. As undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs, Brainard will serve as the top financial diplomat of the United States. He will be involved in various international financial issues and debates, including negotiations with China regarding the yuan.
Brainard was most recently a senior fellow as well as former vice president and director of the Brookings Institution’s Global Economy and Development program. He is also a former principal of the Modernizing Foreign Assistance Network.
