The U.S. Agency for International Development has a new deputy assistant administrator for the Middle East in the person of Hady Amr, founding director of the Brookings Doha Center, according to Josh Rogin of “The Cable.”
The Brookings Doha Center is a project of the Saban Center for Middle East Policy at the Brookings Institution. It conducts independent, policy-oriented research on the socio-economic and geopolitical issues affecting Muslim states and communities, including relations with the United States.
“Hady Amr, the founding director of the Brookings Institution Doha Center, will join the United States Agency for International Development, The Cable has confirmed,” Rogin writes.
The Obama administration has yet to field a nominee for the position of assistant administrator in USAID’s Middle East bureau, which is currently headed by George A. Laudato, special assistant to USAID Administrator Rajiv Shah on the Middle East. Rogin says Mara Rudman may be that person, citing a Politico report that the chief of staff of Middle East special envoy George Mitchell is being tapped to assume a top USAID post.
