Canada will help fund the construction of a hospital and a police academy as part of its contribution to the reconstruction of Haiti, International Cooperation Minister Bev Oda said during her April 8 visit to the country, the Toronto Sun reports. Canada will provide 20 million Canadian dollars (USD19.8 million) for a hospital in the province of Gonaives and 18.1 million Canadian dollars for a police academy in the city of Ganthier near Port-au-Prince. Another 16.5 million Canadian dollars will be allotted for the training of senior officers. Oda also assured that Canada will continue its humanitarian assistance to the earthquake-ravaged country.
