Canada has allocated more than 200 million Canadian dollars ($194.38 million) for 25 new initiatives in Africa, including continued support for humanitarian efforts in drought-hit and conflict-afflicted African countries such as Somalia, Sudan and South Sudan.
This was announced by Canadian Minister for International Development Beverley Oda, who said the promised assistance is designed to help “Africa fulfill its future potential with assistance that will strengthen efforts towards a better life for all.”
Of the projects, 23 cover the thematic priority areas of the Canadian International Development Agency, namely sustainable economic growth, children and youth, and food security. The set also includes two humanitarian assistance initiatives to help address the aftermath of drought and conflict.
The Canadian government said the country will work with Canadian, international and Africa-based non-governmental organizations in the implementation of the 25 projects.
