Career advice from a Habitat for Humanity International photographer

Photographer and video producer Raymond McCrea Jones speaks to Devex about how he went from covering news to using his work for social causes, and shares advice for aspiring visual storytellers.

    By Katrina Lane // 07 July 2022

As a professional photographer and director in the nonprofit sector, Raymond McCrea Jones aims to create visual stories that capture the imagination and inspire positive change.

Over a 17-year career, his photography has been exhibited in galleries and featured in publications around the world. Jones is currently a photographer and video producer at Habitat for Humanity International, using his photography skills to help fulfill the global housing nonprofit’s vision of a world where everyone has a decent place to live.

“As a journalist and visual storyteller, I often go into a situation in the driver’s seat. I am the one with the camera and platform. When someone opens the door for me into their home and their life, we have developed a relationship — one that comes with an enormous responsibility,” Jones said.
