Concord Urges EU to Work on Meeting Aid Targets

European Union member states should present legally binding timetables outlining how they intend to fulfill their aid commitments, the European NGO Confederation for Relief and Development, or Concord, said. These timetables should be submitted to the European Council, which should in turn conduct an annual review of the countries’ aid targets, the confederation added. Concord’s suggestions came following the release of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development’s report showing that EU foreign development aid fell in 2009. The EU, according to the report, is also not likely to meet the commitments it made in support of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals.
