DR Congo loses $40M IMF funding

The International Monetary Fund blocked the release of the last $40 million installment under a three-year program for Congo, citing the country’s “extreme slowness in the achievement of goals and the implementation of structural reforms.” Central bank governor Jean-Claude Masangu made the disclosure during a news conference in Kinshasa. A source suggested that the central bank is to blame for the development as it failed to keep the lid on its spending and observe the set limits for its net internal assets and the government’s net banking credit.
