The European Commission plans to support the implementation of the LEADER method in Slovenia.
LEADER is an initiative financed by the EU structural funds and is designed to help rural actors consider the long-term potential of their local region. The overall objective of LEADER is to promote rural development through local initiatives and partnerships, particularly local action groups.
A senior official at the Slovenian Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry and Food told Devex Early Intelligence that over the seven-year period, the EC will promote local development strategies, and strengthen inter-territorial and transnational cooperation. Special attention will be given to activities for local action groups.
The commission has set aside an indicative 27 million euros (US$38.5 million) to finance these activities for 2007-2013.
