Budget support and a coherent development policy are high on the agenda of the European ministers for development cooperation’s Oct. 21-22 meeting in Brussels.

The ministers will discuss the “strategic orientation” of the European Union’s development policy and the use of budget support as an aid modality.

Economic Partnership Agreements, commercial agreements that aim to promote the economic growth and regional integration in Asian, Caribbean and Pacific states will also be tackled during the meeting. The ministers will also explore measures to raise new development financing such as a global currency transaction levy.
Organized by Belgian Minister for Development Cooperation Charles Michels, the meeting will be presided by EU foreign affairs chief Catherine Ashton.
