Exclusive: IRC poised to shed 1 in 9 UK staff amid funding crisis

One in 9 staff in the International Rescue Committee’s United Kingdom office is at risk of layoffs because of a budget crisis that has sparked accusations of “mismanagement” by its leadership.

Twenty-nine of 261 posts in London are “potentially impacted” by a “growing deficit” in funding from “unrestricted sources” — revenue not earmarked for specific programs — according to internal emails shared with Devex.

Similar cuts of “around 10 percent” are anticipated in positions funded from unrestricted revenues across the NGO’s worldwide operation, a letter to staff from IRC President and CEO David Miliband states.
