Finnish farmers can expect to receive up to 15,000 euros worth of direct grants each under a new scheme worth 22 million euros approved May 25 by the European Commission. The scheme aims to support farmers who are encountering difficulties because of the economic crisis. It is open to all farmers engaged in primary agricultural production, provided they were not already facing difficulties prior to the crisis (July 2008). The scheme will run until Dec. 31, 2010.
