Finland drew 47.3 million euros (USD63.8 million) from its 2010 humanitarian aid budget of 69.7 million euros to support efforts to help people affected by crises and natural disasters, the Finnish government said in a statement.
The funding includes contribution to the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund and will be channeled through various U.N. agencies, the Red Cross and Finnish aid groups. It is in addition to the aid worth 5.4 million euros for Haiti earthquake victims, which the government released in January.
The assistance will mainly benefit Africa and support relief efforts to address “severe crises” plaguing Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.
