Three weeks after the massive Feb. 6 earthquakes hit Turkey and Syria, the death toll now stands at more than 50,000, with many more injured, and over 5 million left homeless.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has launched two flash appeals, saying over $1 billion is needed for Turkey, while almost $400 million is needed to address the situation in Syria.
Major needs include emergency accommodation, food, health care, and WASH — water and sanitary health. The largest single need in Turkey is for emergency shelter, with $247 million needed, while the largest need in Syria is for food, with UNOCHA saying $128 million is needed.
