UNICEF country representative Min-Whee Kang was expelled from Gambia, Agence France-Presse reports. The U.N. agency received a letter from the Gambian government saying Kang was no longer welcome in the country, a UNICEF spokeswoman told AFP. Kang reportedly went to an “unknown destination” after being told to leave Gambia within 24 hours on Feb. 12.

Kang is the second U.N. official forced out of Gambia in three years, AFP notes. A local U.N. Development Program envoy was expelled in February 2007 after criticizing Gambian President Yahya Jammeh’s claim he can cure AIDS using herbs and mystical powers.
