Guides once meant to help teenagers navigate their bodies and relationships have vanished from UNICEF’s website after a conservative U.S. advocacy group accused the agency of pushing “sexually explicit programs targeting children.”
In a report published in August, the Center for Family and Human Rights, or C-Fam, zeroed in on sexual education publications that it criticized for normalizing LGBTQ relationships, promoting masturbation, and encouraging girls to explore their own anatomy, among other things.
Within days, UNICEF leadership told staff that a C-Fam report had flagged certain materials as problematic and should be taken down, according to a high-level staffer who requested anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press.
