    The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation granted USD8.7 million to the Fraunhofer Center for Molecular Biotechnology (CMB) to help develop a vaccine for avian influenza, which utilizes transient plant-based technology, according to

    . "If successful, this project could help developing countries respond quickly to outbreaks of influenza and other infectious diseases to significantly limit their impact on vulnerable populations," said Doug Holtzman, senior program officer at the foundation.
