Germany pledged $50.7 million in aid to Nepal for 2006 to 2007 to support the ongoing peace process. The amount is three times more than the $16.9 million German assistance in 2004 to 2005. “We are going to increase assistance significantly to Nepal,” Franz Rin, German ambassador to Nepal said, adding that “the issues associated with the peace process have been the keys for German assistance”. According to Thomas Lawan, national director of the German Technical Cooperation Agency (GTZ), the assistance shall focus on feeding the former Nepali guerilla?s armed forces, rehabilitating internally displaced people and the electoral process of constituent assembly.
